Mission Statement
Heckert Counseling & Consultation was founded out of a passion for providing competent, ethical, and research-informed services to youth, families, and adults in Whatcom County. It is our mission to collaborate with community partners and contractors to increase availability of evidence-based therapies to those experiencing challenges with behavioral health. With effective outcomes and client satisfaction in mind, Heckert Counseling & Consultation strives to provide a relaxed, client-informed, and collaborative counseling experience. Through the integration of innovative technology, these services are also made available throughout Washington State via tele-health and video counseling.
Regardless of our life course, we will all find ourselves in challenging moments—times when stress can be overwhelming or circumstances weigh heavy on our hearts. Our ability to navigate life is influenced by our own experiences, including our families, relationships, and childhood. It is through these experiences that we can develop unhelpful thoughts and unhealthy behaviors. This is the root of our struggles and, for some, mental illness. We may find our life path leading us through depression, anxiety, trauma, or another tribulation. However, at Heckert Counseling & Consultation, we strongly believe that it is possible for our paths to be re-routed. We can find hope and meaning in life.
One way to accomplish this is through the therapeutic relationship with a counselor. Therapy provides a place to be vulnerable and a time to be reflective. Through openness, communication, and a willingness to be an active participant in the process, we can all learn new ways to understand ourselves, life, and the world around us.
Aligned with the philosophy of social work, we do not view ourselves to be the expert of your life. Each of us knows what is best for our own life. Our role, then, as a clinician is to offer support, provide guidance and education, and to help others think critically about their life experiences. Through therapy, we facilitate a process of change for others, holding them accountable for their actions and desire to feel better.
Whatever you may be going through, we are here to listen and offer support. Together, we will work to alleviate your symptoms or navigate the challenges that have brought you here. We hope to support you in making positive life changes that can help you achieve whatever your goals may be. Asking for help can be difficult, but it can also lead to a rewarding outcome. We look forward to guiding you on this journey.
